...If we speculate that artworks have lives, we can address the following questions: Does an artwork cease to exist when the material object breaks down or is it when it is no longer visible/audible? Or is it the concept or idea of an artwork that is its life? How can documentation and other aspects that aim at extending the longevity or reach, such as mythology and oral history, account for an artwork’s existence? How can artworks or exhibitions be communicated strategically to utilize a second stage of communication to a new audience?
